The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave glad tidings of a special group from this Ummah who will be admitted into Jannah without reckoning or punishment. These are the ones who were foremost in Īmān, Taqwā, righteous deeds, and perfect submission to Allah’s commands. Their faith was pure, their trust in Allah was complete, and their reliance was free from shirk or superstition.
They will enter Paradise in one rank, together, their beauty radiant like the full moon. The first among them will not enter until the last one joins, showing their unity and honor before Allah ﷻ.
Their Description in the Sunnah
Al-Bukhārī reports from Abū Hurayrah (ra) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The first group to enter Paradise will be as beautiful as the full moon. They will not spit, blow their noses or excrete. Their vessels will be of gold, their combs of gold and silver, their incense of aloes, and their sweat will smell like musk. Each of them will have two wives, the marrow of whose leg-bones will be visible through their flesh because of their beauty. There will be no differences or hatred among them; their hearts will be as one, and they will glorify Allah morning and evening.”
(Fath al-Bārī, 6/318; Muslim, at-Tirmidhī)
Another narration from Sahl ibn Sa’d (ra) states:
“Seventy thousand – or seven hundred thousand – of my Ummah will enter Paradise; the first of them will not enter until the last of them does so, and their faces will shine like the full moon.”
(Fath al-Bārī, 6/319)
The Number Multiplied by Allah’s Mercy
With Allah’s boundless mercy, this number will not remain seventy thousand only. Ahmad reports from Abū Bakr (ra) that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“I have been given seventy thousand of my Ummah who will enter Paradise without reckoning. Their faces will be like the full moon and their hearts as one. I asked my Lord for more, so with each one of them He gave me seventy thousand more.”
(Saheeh al-Jāmiʿ, no. 1068)
Another narration mentions:
“…and in addition to that, three handfuls (filled) by my Lord.”
(Saheeh al-Jāmiʿ, no. 2988)
This indicates that the number is vast beyond imagination, a mercy only Allah ﷻ knows.
Their Characteristics
The Prophet ﷺ explained who these honored people are. Ibn ‘Abbās (ra) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“They are those who did not seek to cure themselves with branding (cauterization), nor with ruqyah (charms or spells), nor were they superstitious about omens. Instead, they relied only upon their Lord.”
(Saheeh al-Bukhārī, Fath al-Bārī, 11/405)
When ‘Ukkāshah ibn Mihsan (ra) heard this, he requested the Prophet ﷺ to ask Allah to make him among them. The Prophet ﷺ said: “O Allah, make him one of them.”
Abidances / Qualities of Those Who Enter Without Reckoning
From the Qur’an and Sunnah, we learn their key qualities:
Tawakkul (Complete trust in Allah) – They placed their full reliance on Allah, without depending on superstitions or unlawful practices.
Avoiding Ruqyah and Cauterization (when sought as charms) – They avoided seeking charms or branding as treatment, though permissible in necessity, because they preferred full trust in Allah.
Not believing in Omens – They did not let superstitions or false beliefs control their decisions.
Strong Īmān and Taqwā – They safeguarded their faith with sincerity and purity.
Purity of Heart – Their hearts were free from rancor, envy, or hatred.
Unity and Brotherhood – They lived as one Ummah, not divided by ego or disputes.
Sabr and Contentment – They endured trials with patience, relying upon Allah’s wisdom.
Closeness to Allah (al-Muqarrabūn) – They were among those brought near to Allah, as described in Sūrah al-Wāqiʿah (56:10–12).
Early Generations’ Virtue – Many of them will be from the earliest generations of Islam, as Allah says:
“A multitude of them will be from the first generations, and a few from the later generations.” (56:13–14)
Their Rank in Paradise
They will be honored with the highest levels of Jannah, their bodies radiant, their homes everlasting, their hearts united in joy, and their tongues in constant glorification of Allah. They are the true victors, whose reliance upon Allah earned them entrance into Paradise without account or punishment.
